What’s In A Signature?

In the tech world we live in, I have seen too many email signatures. “Blessed”, “Regards”, “Sincerely” tend to be the norm.

As a college basketball coach I have used “best in hoops” or (one that my travel soccer coach used to put in his newsletter to our parents) “catch you on the rebound”…I always liked that one.

However one of the best signatures that I have ever seen came during my time as a graduate student at Duquesne University.  I was fortunate enough to have several courses with Dr. Edward Hampton. His approach to leadership was refreshing and innovative and a simple signature captured his dynamic teaching style.

Here is the email correspondence I shared with Dr. Hampton (Drive On!).

Enjoy!

I really do like this because it makes me think about what my signature is and what I stand for. I think having a signature shows what you stand for and what your focus is in a lot of ways. A signature shows others what your motive is. In college basketball as the example was “drive on” shows that you will never stop working hard and having that “go out and get it” attitude.
